If you liked Bunny, then you’ll like these

I recently made a video where I picked one book and picked four similar books based purely off vibes. Now I am digging deeper into why said vibes make sense.

First and foremost, we are basing these recommendations off of Bunny by Mona Awad. I describe this book as one of the most unhinged and refreshing books that I read in 2025. Here is the short list of books, that if you like Bunny, I think you’d like these too:

·      My Year of Rest and Relaxation by Ottessa Moshfegh

·     The Vegetarian by Han Kang

·      Our Wives Under the Sea by Julia Armfield

·      Migrations by Charlotte McConaghy

Okay what do these have in common:

Unraveling – each of these books portrays a kind of quiet unraveling of a woman protagonist. In My Year of Rest and Relaxation, a very privileged woman pursues escapism through sedation. In The Vegetarian, we see how one small act of bodily autonomy gives way to a profound reclamation of self-determination.

Isolation – the central character(s) are alone in their venture. In Our Wives Under the Sea, where our main character’s wife comes back from a deep sea mission changed in unexplainable ways. In Migrations, the Franny is escaping her paste and chasing a dead end in world where most of the animal species have gone extinct.

Blurring of reality – In Bunny and The Vegetarian its surrealism in its story telling – distortion is used as a tool to evoke a feeling and unease. In My Year of Rest and Relaxation it’s psychological distortion. In Migrations and Our Wives Under the Sea it’s the speculation – what is left out that creates an eerie feelings as the pages turn.

Can you think of any other books that could be thrown into the pile?
